Searching for West

Published: 8/7/2012

NRA is the largest pro-hunting organization in the world. Through programs, legislation, grant funding and publications, NRA efforts have strengthened the rich tradition of hunting for generations. As such, NRA is proud to partner with Seacat Creative to preview an elegant and authentic new hunting story: Searching for West.

The high-tech film stars elk hunter and mountain athlete Mark Seacat. Seacat has long believed that the primal act of hunting is, at its core, quite beautiful, and now he and director Christopher Murphy think they’ve proven it.

Searching for West tells the story of Seacat, an accomplished elk hunter and professional photographer whose son, West, was born 10 days before the 2011 Montana elk season. In the film, Seacat pushes himself to do it all—chase elk each day in grand and unyielding landscapes, get home in time for a late dinner, stay up through the night with his newborn to let his wife rest, and leave well before dawn the next morning to do it all again.

Words, however, can’t capture the grandeur and beauty of the film.

The film is scheduled to premiere on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Emerson Theater in Bozeman, Mont. The film’s online premiere is scheduled for noon on Aug. 22.
